I Love You, Man: Movie in Review

Release: 2009 Rating: R Run Time: 105 minutes

Another casual comedy that relies on the character's social awkwardness to entertain you and make you laugh. This eventually evolves into a buddy movie with some light growing up undertones.

Over all, it is simple and funny for a casual night. Great rental, but I would not buy this movie.

NekoCon 14 Fail for Show Addict

In post Nekocon realization, I could have reviewed several of the movies that were at Nekocon (including the live action Gantz). Though I had a great time, I didn't take advantage of the situation like I should have. Next time folks.

Any ways, head over to my other blog to see the awesome Nekocon pictures I took.

Enemy Mine: Movie in Review

Run Time: 108 Minutes Rating: PG-13 Release: 1985

I try not to get politic in my Review blog (That is what BKG is for.) and I am not going to. Instead I will recommend this sci-fi  oldie, Enemy Mine. The effects are slightly behind for the time but given that they are minorly used, it is not that big of a deal. The heart of this movie is about two enemies being forced to become allies and by accident become family learning about each other's cultures. Simply put if you want a sci-fi that is less about effects, more about story (which has it big flaws still) and has a message that can speak to our current times, then this is the movie for you tonight.

Honestly, I wish they show this on SyFy or something, we could use this message right now.

The Muppets: Movie in Review

Run Time: 98 minutes Rating: PG Release: 2011

Wow, doing a movie that still in theaters. A movie written by a fan of the Muppets for Muppet fans and it shows. Straight up, if you are a fan of the Muppet movies of the past then you will be a fan of this movie. Simply put, this is not a raping of a franchise (like the Smurfs) but merely a continuation. The Muppets is true to its past, even subtly paying homage to it through out the movie. Welcome to the Muppet Show and enjoy.

Take Me Home Tonight: Movie in Review

Release: 2011 Rating: R Run Time: 97 minutes

Up front, I think this movie is fantastic but not for being brilliant or award winning but simply for being a new 80s film without being forced. If you love classic 80s movies, this movie should be enjoyable but I would not say it is better then our man Hughes (may he rest in peace.). So, in the end if you want the feel of an light classic but feel like watching something you seen before, put Take Me home Tonight in your player.

Oh, just because it is awesome; check out the great promo music video for the movie.

Real Steel: Movie in Review

Released: 2011 Rated: PG-13  Run Time: 127 minutes (2 hours and 7 minutes)

Much like Kick-Ass, this movie caught me very much off guard. I thought I was going to go to a casual show and watch some robots destroy themselves for my entertainment, but I was wrong, so horribly wrong. Well, not horribly; actually quite pleased actually.

Straight forward, this is a 'heart of gold' movie about a father finding redemption with his son over the course of robot boxing matches. It turns out great, with story beating out 'feel good' and most likely will find yourself cheering as if you were ring side. My only complaint is a I felt wanting more, wishing this was a mini series on tv then a really long movie or perhaps they just wanted to make a sequel. I am sure we will see.

Dark Cloud Blogs going to Nekocon

Hampton Roads has it`s own anime convention every first weekend of November, Nekocon. This veteran con is in it`s 14th year and this will be my 3rd time having the pleasure to attend. It was a rather last minute decision, missing pre-reg by a day so I will have to pay at the door which sucks but it will be worth it. I will be joining one of my best friends at the con; the same friend that convinced me to go.

He will be cosplaying as an alerted MGS generic soldier, while I will be cosplaying a quick `n` dirty Sam Flynn from Tron: Legacy (This cosplay will be covered in a future Bigender Kinky Gamer post.). I am looking forward to all the events Nekocon has to offer, always enjoying the AMV contest. I will be buying a new camera for the con and will all can expect a post about the con with pictures!

Shades out!

Pastry in Review: Archer Farms Pumpkin Spice Muffins

Where: Target Weight Watcher Points: 10

So I am at Target seeing if they are carrying Pumpkin Pie for the Fall season. Disappointedly they did not but I did discovered their Pumpkin Spice Muffins. I decided that it be fair enough (like the sad Pumpkin Muffins at Donkin` Donuts) but was happily surprised.

Biting into the muffin I was surprised by the full pumpkin pie flavor but slightly different. Making it even better, the muffin has a full smooth top while the texture is a smooth sponge while being moist.

This muffin has easily gain "sinful pleasure" status. Usually Pumpkin Pie is my Fall favorite but now Pumpkin Pies and Target's Pumpkin Spice Muffins are my seasonal favorites.

Sucker Punch: Movie in Review

Release: 2011 Rated: PG-13 Run Time: 110 Minutes

Straight up, I love Sucker Punch but I think it is destined to be a cult classic joining the club of Boondock Saints, Scott Pilgrim vs World, Rocky Horror Picture Show and many more.

If in the mood for action and special FXs, this movie has it along with a generous sprinkling of gorgeous woman but that this just the frosting on this layer cake.

This movie built on many layers of emotions, character emotions with some thriller elements. Simply put, this movie is more then one aspects and takes it title of 'Sucker Punch' to heart.

Undercover Blues

Rated: PG-13 Release: 1993 Length: 89 minutes

A light hearted comedy about a retired spy couple who are trying to start a new life with their new baby girl. While spending vacation in New Orleans they are offered one last job, they accept with chaos and comedy following.

This movie far from serious but is not stupid humor. A simple relaxed movie with a wide cast that brings it altogether. Best with a Sunday afternoon lunch, tall sandwich and your favorite beverage.

Cosplay Complex: Anime in Review

Release: 2002 Rated: NR (PG-13) Length: 3 Episodes

Cosplay Complex is another sweet natured anime comedy that does not take itself seriously. The whole thing is filled with fan service, and doesn't seem like too much (too much fan service? never!). Of course, part of that might stem from the fact the show is about changing clothes.

The characters are not overly complex but still very entertaining none the less. Simply put, if you ever asked yourself the question, "If they cosplayed in an anime, what would it be like?” Well this will answer your question; unfortunately the problem is it is only three episodes long without any closure. This is a plague that infects many animes in the good or bad range.

Overall it is a good if you’re looking for an anime that is brief and good on the wallet. I just wish it had a fourth (or fifth) episode to finish things up, and I am sure you will wish the same too.

Preaching to the Perverted: Movie in Review

Release: 1997 Rated: NR (R) Run Time: 97 minutes

Welcome to your video introduction to the world of BDSM. This is no documentary. This is actually a drama lite romance about understanding, acceptance and the world is a grey place that is painted bright pink.

Most of the main characters go through some kind of transformation in the movie making a large cast of dynamic characters though this blossom might be small or late in the movie.

One of the better parts of this movie is how they go out of their way to educate the viewers of this ‘dark world’ while very much still being a story. Open or closed minded; you should give this one a shot in the dark.

Thor: Movie in Review

Release: 2011 Rating: P-13 Run Time: 114 minutes

As much as I am a geek, I am not a comic fanboy. Because of that, this was watched with 'virgin view' of Thor. Thor is a myth turn Sci-fantasy with a good mix of both drama and action. Plot was light (but not thin) and really was a coming of age story. Even with the action and the drama the movie does not forget the comedy, making this a nice mix but nothing to heavy. Sit back and just enjoy the references and clues that lead up to 'The Avengers'.

Shoot’Em Up: Movie in Review

Release: 2007 Rated: R Run Time: 86 minutes

Not just another senseless violence movie with a rushed romance, Shoot’Em Up has some quality to it. This is not that hard of a leap given such wonderful actors as Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti, but you do have to check portions of your reality at the snack stand (don’t worry, they will give it back) for the action sequences.

I enjoyed the characters very much along with the humor that was directly and indirectly delivered by them. They greatly laced together the fantastic and impressive gun ballets that really make this movie and give it its straight forward, but not tell all, title. I would pick this up if you want to be entertained and a little impressed but not in the mood to think or plot delve; serve with popcorn.

Dirty Pretty Things: Movie in Review

Release: 2002 Rated: R Run Time: 107 minutes

Simple but catchy title made of single syllable words grabs your interest before the film even starts. A gritty thriller without the action, but it doesn't miss it at all. Over all acting of the cast is above par, even though one character is very stereotypical. Two wonderful supporting characters, one almost more interesting, then the main character Okwe (Chiwetel Ejiofor). His dynamics allows him to surpass but I suppose that is why Okwe is our 'hero'. A good entertaining story but barely solid but the rest of the overall package makes up for this leaving with a satisfied experience...Enjoy...
